Amen brother! Literally the first time I’ve ever highlighted something on medium. I didn’t grow up wanting for anything basic but money was a constant worry. We got christmas and birthday gifts regularly but we saved the wrapping paper to reuse. None of our clothes was dirty or torn but 90% of it was hand-me downs from friends. We bought beds but all of our other furniture we picked up from what people left out on the street. Now with three kids, my plate is the only one spotless at the end of dinner and it physically pains me to throw anything out. I want my kids to be resilient and work hard but I want them to stand on my shoulders not stand next to me.
